Divine Savior and eternal High Priest
Jesus Christ, it is Thou Who choosest with especial love those who are
to be Thy priests. With all the fervor of my heart I recommend to Thee
all the candidates for the priesthood throughout the world. Do Thou
already now in their years of study fill their hearts with true priestly
sentiments. Given them lively and joyous faith, a great spirit of
prayer, burning love for Thee and for Thy holy Church, ardent zeal for
the salvation of souls, a tender devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and
to Thine Immaculate Mother. Also enlighten and bless all their educators
and teachers in their difficult and responsible obligations.
O Mary, thou good Mother of priests, protect all candidates for the
priesthood. Shield them in all those interior and exterior dangers that
threaten their holy vocation during their years of study.
Grant them good health always, progress in their studies, and also the
necessary financial means, so that not one of them may be excluded from
the priesthood because of poverty. But, above all, be always at their
side in all the temptations that assail youth, so that they may preserve
untarnished their purity of heart and one day ascend the altar as holy
priests of spotless purity. But especially keep away from the priesthood
those who, uncalled and unworthy, would force themselves into the
sanctuary of the Most High. And do not permit that parents or relatives
in misguided love, or even out of wrong motives, urge their sons to
enter the priestly state when they do not feel themselves called to it.
All ye holy Apostles, all ye holy bishops and priests, all ye holy
patrons of youth, pray for all aspirants to the priesthood, shield them
and be ever their strong support, in order that they may be true
apostle, holy mediators between God and men, and safe guides to many
immortal souls along the road to heaven. Amen

April 13 Blessed Rolando Rivi: "I Belong to Jesus"

"When he returned home, Rolando did his best to continue his life as a seminarian. He continued to wear his cassock. This choice was dangerous in an area where bands of partisans, very active, were controlled by Communists. For followers of Marxism-Leninism, the Catholic Church would have no place in society after the war; the clergy were at the top of the list of enemies to be destroyed."

"I make bold to suggest that Bl. Rolando is a good person to appeal to if you know any seminarians who need prayers, and especially those who are persecuted for their love of the Church’s traditions; and further, in preparation for next year’s symposium on the priesthood, that it would not be a bad idea to consider what it was about the Church that Rolando Rivi lived in that enabled him to face martyrdom so bravely at the age of only 14. Beate Rolande, ora pro nobis!"

Prayer for the Intercession of Blessed Rolando Rivi
O God, merciful Father, who choose the small to confound the powerful of the world, I thank You for having given us, in the seminarian Rolando Rivi, a testimony of total love for Your Son, Jesus, and the Church, unto the sacrifice of his life.
Enlightened by this example, and through Rolando’s intercession, I ask You to give me the strength always to be a living sign of Your love in the world, and I beg You to grant me the grace of [here state your petition], which I ardently desire. Amen

"O sublime priesthood! Perfect Priest!
Superabundant consecration!
Jesus, I adore Thee in the plenitude and the perfection of Thy Priesthood!
Ascend Thy altar, "Eternal throne of
justice; God, Thy God, He who is Thy Father, has consecrated Thee by the
anointing of the most glorious priesthood, above all angels, and above
all men, Thy brethren - Thronus tuus Deus...unxit te Deus, Deus Tuus,
Oleo loetitioe proe consortibus tuis! -Thy throne, O God, is for ever
and ever: a scepter of justice is the scepter of Thy kingdom. Thou hast
loved justice and hated iniquity: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed
thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. It is from Thee that
flow their sole created source, all the sacerdotal graces. All those,
therefore, who will be called to the exalted honor of the priesthood
will participate in Thy incomparable elevation, and ought to show
themselves worthy of Thee by means of a holiness which will render them
more like to Thee than all their brethren"

Rorate Caeli: Fontgombault Sermon for Maundy Thursday 2021:
"Sacraments and Prayer are our sole strength against the apostasy of our times."
For a Holy Church and Priests (St. Faustina Kowalska):
O my Jesus, I beg You on behalf of the whole Church: Grant it love and the light of Your Spirit and give power to the words of priests so that hardened hearts might be brought to repentance and return to You, O Lord. Lord, give us holy priests; You Yourself maintain them in holiness. O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of Your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devilʼs traps and snares which are continually being set for the souls of priests. May the power of Your mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of priests, for You can do all things.
I pray to You for the triumph of the Church, that You may bless the Holy Father and all the clergy; I beg You to grant the grace of conversion to sinners whose hearts have been hardened by sin, and a special blessing and light to priests, to whom I shall confess for all of my life. Amen.
The Office of Holy Week, 1870
"It is now uncommon to hear Maundy Thursday referred to as Holy Thursday. This is a mistake. Holy Thursday is a name belonging absolutely from time immemorial to the Feast of the Ascension. Maundy is a significant name and ought therefore to be jealously guarded. Enough of that element of religion which serves to make it popular has been lost in the course of past centuries.
The word Maundy is derived, through the French maundier, from the Latin mandatum: "Mandatum novum do vobis," (a new commandment I give unto you) John, 13:34. The Mandatum or Maundy was the ceremony of the washing of the feet and almsgiving observed on this day, both of which were performed as a token of that brotherly love which Christ so earnestly inculcated at the Last Supper.
The ceremony of the washing of the feet was and is part of the liturgy. It was performed by Pope, Bishop, and priest, and kings, nobles and peasants, imitated their example. Twelve poor men were selected to be the recipients of the dignitaries' favor.
The Maundy is observed in the ceremonies of the Church, and in many religious communities even at the present time.
Visiting the repositories is a custom as popular of old as it is today. It is indeed edifying to Catholic and non-Catholic alike to witness the spontaneous demonstration of devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, and deeper than we are aware of is the impression produced on the multitude of unbelievers around us by this and similar acts of faith."

Peter and John Running to the Tomb Eugène Burnand (1850 – 1921)
Christians, to the Paschal victim
offer your thankful praises!
A lamb the sheep redeemeth:
Christ, who only is sinless,
reconcileth sinners to the Father.
Death and life have contended
in that combat stupendous:
the Prince of life, who died,
reigns immortal.
Speak, Mary, declaring
what you saw, wayfaring:
"The tomb of Christ, who is living,
the glory of Jesus' resurrection;
"Bright angels attesting,
the shroud and napkin resting.
"Yea, Christ my hope is arisen;
to Galilee he will go before you."
Christ indeed from death is risen,
our new life obtaining;
have mercy, victor King, ever reigning!

"In one respect alone was Richard inexorable even to sternness, and that was when any one violated the dignity of the priesthood, or any priest polluted his holy office by sin. In one case he had deprived a priest of noble blood of his benefice, and was assailed on all sides by petitions for his re-installment. "But," says Bocking, "though king and queen, and many great nobles with prelates and bishops earnestly and often begged him to restore the offender to his benefice, he was immovable, and would not yield for all their prayers." To one bishop, who was especially urgent, he answered, "My lord Bishop, I commit my authority to thee in this case, at the peril of thy soul, as thou wouldest wish to have acted at the day of judgment before the Judge of all;" but the bishop would not accept the bargain."
Source: Lives of the English Saints.
As a brother, as chancellor, and as bishop, St. Richard faithfully performed each duty of his state without a thought of his own interests. Neglect of duty is the first sin of that self love which ends with the loss of grace."
Source: The Little Pictorial of the Lives of Saints
"Satisfaction consists in cutting off the causes of sin. Fasting is the proper antidote of gluttony and lust; Prayer is the cure for pride, envy, anger, and sloth; alms-giving against covetousness and avarice."
"The saint's devotion to the Holy Eucharist is shown by his minute and careful legislation regarding all things connected with the service of the altar. Everything surrounding it, and especially the linen used for Mass, must be of spotless cleanliness, and no priest may say Mass in torn or dirty vestments. The chalices must be of Gold or silver, and a crucifix must always be placed before the celebrant. When the Holy Viaticum is carried to the sick it must be taken with the utmost reverence, the priest in surplice and stole, accompanied by cross, lights, and holy water, and preceded by an acolyte with a bell to let the people know that their Lord is passing.
Only those who have passed a sufficient examination are to be admitted to the ranks of the clergy, and no one is to be ordained to sacred orders if he come with any other design than to serve God alone; ordination, therefore, should be refused to anyone for money, favor, or privilege, and all those in the least tainted with heresy or suspected of leading unholy lives must be rigorously excluded from the priesthood.
(...)
Finally, the clergy are reminded of the duty of instructing their flocks in the truths of the Faith, and they must teach them simple prayers according to their ability to learn.

Prayer to Saint Richard of Chichester
Most merciful Redeemer,
who gavest to thy Bishop Richard a love of learning,
a zeal for souls, and a devotion to the poor:
grant that, encouraged by his example,
and aided by his prayers,
we may know thee more clearly,
love thee more dearly,
and follow thee more nearly,
day by day;
who livest and reignest with the Father
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God,
world without end. Amen.
Prayer of Saint Richard of Chichester
Gratias tibi ego, Domine Jesu Christe, de omnibus beneficiis, quae
mihi praestitisti; pro poenis & opprobiis, quae pro me pertulisti;
propter quae plactus ille lamentablis vere tibim competebat. Non est
dolor sicut dolor meus.
Priests' First Saturday

Divine Savior, Jesus Christ, Who hast
entrusted the whole work of Thy redemption, the welfare and salvation of
the world, to priests as Thy representatives, through the hands of Thy
most holy Mother and for the sanctification of Thy priests and
candidates for the priesthood I offer Thee this present day wholly and
entirely, with all its prayers, works, sacrifices, joys, and sorrows.
Give truly holy priests who, inflamed with the fire of Thy divine love,
seek nothing but Thy greater glory and the salvation of our souls.
And thou, Mary, good Mother of priests, protect all priests in the
dangers of their holy vocation and, with the loving hand of a Mother,
also lead back to the Good Shepherd those poor priests who have become
unfaithful to their exalted vocation and have gone astray.
