Novena for Priests to the Sacred Heart (Day 1: June 20th)

by VP

Posted on Thursday June 20, 2019 at 01:00AM in Prayers

“We pray that priests and bishops will uphold the true teachings of the Catholic Church and resist the temptations to compromise doctrine in the face of cultural and social pressures.”

Novena Prayer to the Sacred Heart for Priests

Remember, O most loving Heart of Jesus, that they for whom I pray are those for whom You prayed so earnestly the night before Your death. These are they to whom You look to continue with You in Your sorrows when others forsake You, who share Your griefs and have inherited your persecutions, according to Your word: That the servant is not greater than his Lord.

Remember, O Heart of Jesus, that they are the objects of the worldʼs hatred and Satanʼs deadliest snares. Keep them then, O Jesus, in the safe citadel of Your Sacred Heart and there let them be sanctified in truth.May they be one with you and one among themselves, and grant that multitudes may be brought through their word to believe in You and love You. Amen
.

Novena to the Sacred Heart

O most holy Heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore Thee, I love Thee and with a lively sorrow for my sins, I offer Thee this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure and wholly obedient to Thy will. Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in Thee and for Thee. Protect me in the midst of danger; comfort me in my afflictions; give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, Thy blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death. Within Thy Heart I place my every care. In every need let me come to Thee with humble trust saying, Heart of Jesus help me.

Feast of Corpus Christi

St. Thomas of Aquinas Hymn:

Lauda Sion Salvatorem

Praise, O Sion, thy Savior,
praise thy Leader and thy Shepherd
in hymns and canticles.
As much as thou canst, so much darest thou,
for He is above all praise,
nor art thou able to praise Him enough.

Today there is given us a special theme of praise,
the Bread both living and life-giving,
which, it is not to be doubted,
was given to the assembly of the brethren,
twelve in number, at the table of the holy Supper.

Let our praise be full and sounding;
let the jubilation of the soul
be joyous and becoming;
for that solemn day is now being celebrated,
on which is commemorated the
first institution of this table.

At this table of the new King,
the new Pasch of the New Law
puts an end to the ancient Pasch.
The new supplants the old,
truth puts to flight the shadow,
day banishes night.

What Christ did at that Supper,
the same He commanded
to be done in remembrance of Him.
Taught by His sacred precepts,
we consecrate bread and wine
into the Victim of salvation.

This is the dogma given to Christians,
thy at bread is changed into Flesh
and wine into Blood.
What thou dost not understand,
what thou dost not see, a lively faith confirms
in a supernatural manner.

Under different species in externals
signs only, and not in reality,
wondrous substances lie hidden.
Flesh is food, Blood is drink:
nevertheless Christ remains entire
under each species.

By the recipient the whole is received;
He is neither cut, broken, nor divided.
One receives Him; a thousand receive Him:
as much as the thousand receive,
so much does the one receive;
though eaten He is not diminished.

The good receive Him, the bad receive Him,
but with what unequal consequences
of life or death.
It is death to the unworthy, life to the worthy:
behold then of a like reception,
how unlike may be the result!

When the Sacrament is broken,
doubt not, but remember,
that there is just as much hidden in a fragment,
as there is in the whole.
There is no division of the substance,
only a breaking of the species takes place,
by which neither the state nor stature
of the substance signified is diminished.

Lo, the Bread of Angels
is made the food of earthly
pilgrims: truly it is the Bread of children,
let it not be cast to dogs.
It was prefigured in types,
—when Isaac was immolated,
when the Paschal Lamb was sacrificed,
when Manna was given to the fathers.

O Good Shepherd, True Bread,
O Jesus, have mercy
on us: feed us and protect us:
make us see good things in
the land of the living.
Thou who knowest all things
and canst do all things,
who here feedest us mortals,
make us there be Thy guests, the co-heirs,
and companions of the heavenly citizens.
Amen.

Saint Anthony, glory of the Church and hammer of heretics, pray for our Holy Father, our bishops, our priests, our Religious Orders, that, through their pious zeal and apostolic labors, infidels, heretics, and all those outside the true Church of Christ may be converted and, united in faith, give greater glory to God. Amen.

For a Priest on His First Mass

by VP

Posted on Saturday June 08, 2019 at 12:18PM in Prayers

O Holy Spirit, Your servant who is about to celebrate this Mass shares the holy priesthood of Jesus and Your apostolate. Enkindle in his heart the flames that transformed the disciples in the Upper Room. Let him be no longer an ordinary man but a man living to transfuse the divine life into the souls of others. Give him an ardent desire for the inner life as well as Your consolation and strength. Enable him to see that even here below there is no true happiness unless his life partakes of Yours and that of the Heart of Jesus in the bosom of the Father.
Amen.

Novena for Priests for Pentecost (From May 31st to June 8th)

by VP

Posted on Friday May 31, 2019 at 10:41AM in Prayers

Jesus, Good Shepherd, You sent us the Holy Spirit to guide Your Church
and lead her faithful to You through the ministry of Your priests.

Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, grant to Your priests wisdom in leading,
faithfulness in teaching, and holiness in guarding Your sacred Mysteries.

As they cry out with all the faithful, "Abba, Father!" may Your priests be ever
more closely identified with You in Your divine Sonship and offer their own lives
with You, the one saving Victim. Make them helpful brothers of one another,
and understanding fathers of all Your people.

On this Pentecost Sunday, renew in Your priests deeper faith, greater trust in You,
childlike reliance on our Mother Mary, and unwavering fidelity to the Holy Father and his bishops.

Holy Mary, intercede for your priests.
St. Joseph, protect them.
St. Michael, defend them.
St. John Vianney, pray for them.
Amen.

Heavenly Father, source of all fatherhood on earth, we humbly beseech
you to abundantly bless David Miller and Noe Ramirez you have called
to the share in the sacred priesthood of Your Son.
By the power of the Holy Spirit, they will be configured to Christ the one
High Priest and thus be your instrument for the salvation of the world:
“This is my body, which will be given up for you.”
Through their total gift of self in celibacy, inspire David Miller and Noe
Ramirez to perfectly imitate Jesus and to lay down their lives for His
Bride, the Church. Thus may they bear witness that God must be loved
above all  things. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Holy Mary, Mother of priests, pray for us!

Rogation Days, Prayer without Ceasing

by VP

Posted on Wednesday May 29, 2019 at 12:21PM in Prayers

Prescribed days of prayer and penance in spring. Two sets of rogation days were kept since early Christian times: the Major Rogation on April 25, the Feast of St. Mark; and the Minor Rogations on the last three days before Ascension Thursday. They were instituted to appease divine justice, ask for protection, and invoke Godʼs blessing on the harvest. (Catholic Dictionary, Catholic Culture)

Rogation is simply an English form of the Latin rogatio, which comes from the verb rogare, which means "to ask". The Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday before Ascension day, were called Rogation days or days of solemn supplication and prayer. On these days the priest and people went in procession, singing the litanies, to beg God’s blessing upon the fruits of the earth, and be preserved from pestilence, famine, etc. (Right Rev. Dr. Challoner)

Psalm 69

O God, come to my assistance; O Lord, make haste to help me.
Let them be confounded and ashamed that seek my soul.
Let them be turned backward, and blush for shame that desire evils to me.
Let them be presently turned away blushing for shame that say to me: ‘tis well, ‘tis well.
Let all that seek Thee rejoice and be glad in Thee. And let such as love Thy salvation say always: The Lord be magnified.
But I am needy and poor; O God, help me.
Thou art my helper and my deliverer: O Lord, make no delay.
V. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
V. Save thy servants.
R. Who hope in Thee, O my God.
V. Be unto us, O Lord, a tower of strength.
R. From the face of the enemy.
V. Let not the enemy prevail against us.
R. Nor the son of wickedness have power to hurt us.
V. O Lord, deal not with us according to our sins.
R. Neither requite us according to our iniquities.
V. Let us pray for our Sovereign Pontiff N....
R. The Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.
V. Let us pray for our benefactors.
R. Vouchsafe, O Lord, for Thy Name’s sake, to reward with eternal life all those who do us good. Amen.

V. Let us pray for the faithful departed.
R. Eternal rest give unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
V. May they rest in peace.
R. Amen.
V. For our absent brethren.
R. Save thy servants who hope in Thee, O my God.
V. Send them help, O Lord, from thy holy place.
R. And from Sion protect them.
V. O Lord, hear my prayer.
R. And let my cry come unto Thee.

Prayer

Let us pray.
O God, whose property is always to have mercy and to spare, receive our humble petition: that we, and all Thy servants who are bound by the chain of sin, may be the compassion of Thy goodness mercifully be absolved.
Graciously hear, we beseech Thee, O Lord the prayers of Thy suppliants, and forgive the sins of those that confess to Thee: that, in Thy bounty, Thou mayest grant us pardon and peace.
In Thy clemency, O Lord, show Thine unspeakable mercy to us: that Thou mayest both loose us from all the punishments which we deserve for them.
O God, who by sin art offended, and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication to Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger, which we deserve for our sins.
Almighty, everlasting God, have mercy upon Thy servant N, Our Sovereign Pontiff, and direct him according to Thy clemency into the way of everlasting salvation, that by Thy grace he may both desire those things that are pleasant to Thee, and perform them with all his strength.
O God, from Whom are all holy desires, right counsels, and just works, give unto Thy servants that peace which the world cannot give: that both our hearts, given over to Thy commands, and our times, the fear of our foes removed, may by Thy protection be peaceful.
Inflame, O Lord, our reins and hearts with the fire of the Holy Ghost: that we may serve Thee with a chaste body and please Thee with a clean heart.
O God, the Creator and redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of Thy servants departed the remission of all their sins: that through pious supplications they may obtain that pardon which they have always desired.
Prevent, we beseech Thee, O Lord, our actions by Thy inspirations, and further them by Thy assistance: that every word and work of ours may begin always from Thee, and by Thee be likewise ended.
Almighty, everlasting God, who hast dominion over the living and the dead, and art merciful to all, of whom Thou fore-knowest that they will be Thine by faith and good works: we humbly beseech Thee, that they for whom we intend to pour forth our prayers whether this present world still detain them in the flesh, or the world to come hath already received them out of their bodies, may, through the intercession of all Thy Saints, by the clemency of Thy goodness, obtain the remission of all their sins, Through our Lord Jesus Christ Who liveth and reigneth with Thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, world without end.
May the almighty and merciful Lord graciously hear us. Amen
And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in Peace.

Rogation Days

by VP

Posted on Monday May 27, 2019 at 10:19AM in Prayers

Today is the beginning of three days of prayers and fasting that were traditionally known as Rogation Days. Below you will find historical information I gathered from different sources:
"Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday before Ascension Thursday were instituted by the Church to appease God's anger at man's transgressions, to ask protection in calamities.

These Rogation Days are of French origin, coming about in the 5th c., when St. Mamertus, Bishop of Vienne, Dauphiné instituted them after a series of natural calamities. Rogation is simply an English form of the Latin rogatio, which comes from the verb rogare, which means "to ask". The Rogation Days were marked by the recitation of the litany of the Saints which would normally begin in or at a church.
After Saint Mary was invoked, the congregation would proceed to walk the boundaries of the parish, while reciting the rest of the litany (and repeating it as necessary or supplementing it with some of the penitential or gradual Psalms). Thus, the entire parish would be blessed, and the boundaries of the parish would be marked. The procession would end with a Rogation Mass, in which all in the parish were expected to take part.

If your parish does not celebrate the Rogation Days, there's nothing to stop you from celebrating them yourself. You can mark the days by reciting the Litany of the saints.
We could also pray the Litany to obtain Holy Priests:
Finish it all off by attending daily Mass and praying for good weather and a fruitful harvest."
