Daily Missal with Vespers

"Great evils surround us; is there any hope left to the world? The confidence of thy devout clients proclaims thee, O Jude, the patron of desperate cases; and for thee, O Simon, this is surely the time to prove thyself Zelotes, full of zeal. Deign, both of you, to hear the Church's prayers; and aid her, with all your apostolic might, to reanimate faith, to rekindle charity, and to save the world."

Saint Teresa of Avila: Persecutions

St. Teresa of Avila, St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Wake Forest, NC

"(...) All the Discalceates of both sexes suffered great and terrible  persecutions, from the heavy accusations and violent oppositions of almost all the brethren of the mitigated Rule, and from the Pope's nuncio, Sega, who succeeded Hormaneto, the great favorer of the Reformed. This new nuncio seemed to be resolved upon the ruin of the Reformation; and hereupon began with extreme rigor to condemn, imprison and banish those whom he conceived most likely to make resistance.(...)
As the holy mother had a great share in this persecution, not only by the sufferings she endured in her own person, but also by the fellow-feeling she had for all her children, so it is not to be doubted but that the happy issue of the whole, to God's greater glory, and the great advancement of her Order, is in a great measure to be attributed to her prayers."

Prayer for priests by Saint Teresa of Avila

O my Most Sweet Jesus, O Jesus, Eternal High Priest, keep Thy priests in the shelter of Thy Sacred Heart, where no one can hurt them. Keep their anointed hands unsullied, which daily handle Thy Sacred Body. Keep pure the lips which are reddened with Thy Precious Blood. Keep pure and unworldly their hearts which are sealed with the sublime token of Thy glorious priesthood.

Cause them to grow in love and loyalty to Thee and protect them from the contamination of the world. With their power of transforming bread and wine, give them the power of transforming hearts. Bless their work with rich fruit and grant them one day the crown of eternal life. Amen.

Feast of the Maternity of Mary

by VP

Our Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Priests, Holy Name Cathedral, Raleigh NC

"We exhort all those who glory in being the followers of Christ, and who place in Him their own hope and salvation and that of human society, that they should ever join themselves more firmly and more closely to this Roman Church, in which alone Christ is believed in with whole and perfect faith, is worshipped with the sincere worship of adoration, and is beloved with the perpetual flame of burning charity. Let them remember, and in particular those who preside over a flock separated from Us, that the faith which their fathers solemnly professed at Ephesus is preserved unchanged and is strenuously defended, as in past ages so also in the present, by this supreme Chair of Truth. Let them remember that the unity of this genuine faith rests and stands firm only on the one rock set by Christ, and can be preserved safe and intact by the supreme authority of the successors of Blessed Peter.

Desiring that there may be a liturgical monument of this commemoration, which may help to nourish the piety of clergy and people towards the great Mother of God, We have commanded Our supreme council presiding over Sacred Rites to publish an Office and Mass of the Divine Maternity, which is to be celebrated by the universal Church."

Encyclical: Lux Veritatis, Pope Pius XI, 1931.

Mary, Mother of Jesus, throw your mantle of purity over our priests.
Protect them, guide them, and keep them in your heart.
Be a Mother to them, especially in times of discouragement and loneliness.
Love them and keep them belonging completely to Jesus.
Like Jesus, they, too, are your sons, so keep their hearts pure and virginal.
Keep their minds filled with Jesus, and put Jesus always on their lips,
so that He is the one they offer to sinner and to all they meet.
Mary, Mother of Jesus, be their Mother, loving them and bringing them joy.
Take special care of sick and dying priests, and the ones most tempted.
Remember how they spent their youth and old age, their entire lives serving and giving all to Jesus.
Mary, bless them and keep a special place for them in your heart.
Give them a piece of your heart, so beautiful and pure and immaculate,
so full of love and humility, so that they, too, can grow in the likeness of Christ.
Dear Mary, make them humble like you, and holy like Jesus. Amen.

October 7: Our Lady of the Rosary

"This feast was instituted by Pope St. Pius V in thanksgiving for the great naval victory over the Turks at the battle of Lepanto on this day in the year 1570, a favor due to the recitation of the Rosary. This victory saved Europe from being overrun by the forces of Islam.. Source: Catholic Culture"

John Vianney, Greatly Devoted to Our Blessed Mother O holy Priest of Ars, your life was consecrated to the Blessed Mother. You prayed earnestly to her, entrusting your Priesthood to her care. You begged all the faithful to pray the rosary, the favorite prayer of Mary, our Mother. You summed up the reason for your great love of our Lady by saying: We have only to turn to the Blessed Mother to be heard. Her heart is all love.

O great John Vianney, I ask you with all my heart through the merits of Jesus and the intercession of Mary, the Virgin Mother to make our parish priests' life patterned after that of our heavenly Mother, full of love for God and neighbor. Obtain for them a deeper love for our Lady and a filial confidence in her. She is the person to whom they can turn in times of distress when lonely or upset or in times of temptation. Inspire our parish priests to consecrate their life to their Mother in heaven. May they know the powerful protection of Maryʼs Mantle all the days of their life.

St. Michael the Archangel, Sacred Heart Dunn, NC

All you legions and choirs of Angels, please make haste to come to the aid and defense of our One Holy Roman Catholic Church. Led by St. Michael, may She be protected from destruction within by all modernistic attempts that try to diminish the true presence of God and take away His proper and due respect! In particular, come to the aid of my parish (name your parish) that it may remain or be remade to be a place of reverence and a stronghold from which the One True Triune God may continue to lead and strengthen us. Amen.

October: Rosary for the Sanctification of Priests

by VP

Posted on Saturday October 01, 2022 at 12:00AM in Prayers

O Jesus our great High Priest, hear my humble prayers on behalf of Thy priests. Give them a deep faith, a bright and firm hope and a burning love which will ever increase in the course of their priestly life. In their loneliness, comfort them. In their sorrows, strengthen them, In their frustrations, point out to then that it is through suffering that the soul is purified, and show then that they are needed by the Church; they are needed by souls; they are needed for the work of redemption. O loving Mother Mary, Mother of priests, take to your heart your sons who are close to you because of their priestly ordination and because of their power which they have received to carry on the work of Christ in a world which needs them so much. be their comfort, be their joy, be their strength, and especially help them to live and to defend the ideals of consecrated celibacy.

Prayer for Priests and Vocation ( Ste. Thérèse de Lisieux)

by VP

Posted on Saturday October 01, 2022 at 12:00AM in Prayers

St. Therese de Lisieux, Brittany, France

"Now it is in the Host that I can see you carry your annihilation in full. How humble you are , oh Divine King of Glory in submitting Yourself to all your priests without making any distinction between those who love you and those who, alas, are lukewarm or cold in your service! You descend from Heaven to their call. They can anticipate or delay the time of your Holy Sacrifice. You are always ready! (Pr 20)"
-- St. Thérèse de Lisieux

Prayer for Priests and Vocation ( Ste. Thérèse de Lisieux)

O Holy Father, may the torrents of love flowing from the sacred wounds of Thy Divine Son bring forth priests like unto the beloved disciple John who stood at the foot of the Cross; priests: who as a pledge of Thine own most tender love will lovingly give Thy Divine Son to the souls of men.

May Thy priests be faithful guardians of Thy Church, as John was of Mary, whom he received into his house. Taught by this loving Mother who suffered so much on Calvary, may they display a mother’s care and thoughtfulness towards Thy children. May they teach souls to enter into close union with Thee through Mary who, as the Gate of Heaven, is specially the guardian of the treasures of Thy Divine Heart. Give us priests who are on fire, and who are true children of Mary, priests who will give Jesus to souls with the same tenderness and care with which Mary carried the Little Child of Bethlehem.

Mother of sorrows and of love, out of compassion for Thy beloved Son, open in our hearts deep wells of love, so that we may console Him and give Him a generation of priests formed in thy school and having all the tender thoughtfulness of thine own spotless love.

O my God, help those priests who are faithful to remain faithful, to those who are falling, stretch forth Your Divine Hand that they may grasp it as their support. And for those poor unfortunate souls who have fallen, lift them up in the great ocean of Your Mercy, that being engulfed therein, they may receive the grace to return to Your Great Loving Heart. Amen.
